Kamila Valeryevna Valieva (Russian: Ками́ла Вале́рьевна Вали́ева; born April 26, 2006) is a Russian figure skater. She is the 2022 Winter Olympic champion in the team event, the 2022 European champion, a two-time Grand Prix champion (2021 Rostelecom Cup and 2021 Skate Canada), and a two-time Russian national silver medalist (2021 and 2023).
On the junior level, she is the 2020 World Junior champion, the 2019-20 JGP Final champion, and the 2020 Russian Junior national champion.
Doping Case[]
Following Valieva's participation in the team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics, it was revealed that her urine sample from 2022 Russian Championships had tested positive for trimetazidine, a banned heart medication often used by elderly patients. It is unknown the extent to which it enhances performance, but it has been suggested to improve endurance and recovery. Due to her status as a minor, Valieva's coach, Eteri Tutberidze, is strongly suspected to bear responsibility in this case. The medal ceremony for the team event, which Valieva and her teammates had won, was delayed indefinitely. As of present, the team results remain unchanged.
On February 13, it was announced that Valieva was cleared to compete in the women's figure skating event after a six hour deliberation. It was decided that a medal ceremony would not be held, should Valieva place within the top 3, until this issue was resolved.
