Morgan Ciprès (born April 24, 1991) is a French retired competitive figure skater. With former partner Vanessa James, he is the 2019 European champion, the 2018-19 Grand Prix Final champion, the 2018 World Championships bronze medalist, the 2017 European Championships bronze medalist, and a five-time French national champion (2013-2017).
Sexual Abuse Allegations[]
On December 10, 2019, it was revealed Ciprès had been under investigation by SafeSport for using Instagram to send a sexually explicit photo to a female rink-mate who was then 13 years of age. The incident was reported to SafeSport on August 10, 2019, after a friend of the girl's family had read about Ashley Wagner's story of sexual abuse by John Coughlin.
Following this 2017 incident, the girl and her family had received emails from Ciprès' coaches, John Zimmerman and Silvia Fontana, shaming her and attempting to coerce her from reporting Ciprès. The girl was told she was at fault for being a "pretty girl" because "men have their needs," and that told nobody would believe these allegations. Zimmerman and Fontana had also stated that reporting would interrupt Ciprès' and James' preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
A third accomplice, Vinny Despenza, was named for allegedly urging the girl and another underaged female to request Ciprès to send them sexually explicit photos in exchange for pizza. In addition, Dispenza had told one of the girls that they would never skate again if the incident were to be reported.
