Nathan Chen (born May 5, 1999) is an American figure skater. He is the 2022 Winter Olympic champion, a three-time World champion (2018, 2019, & 2021) the 2017 Four Continents champion, a three-time Grand Prix Final champion (2017-18, 2018-19, & 2019-20) a six-time US national champion (2017-2022), the 2016-17 Grand Prix Final silver medalist, and the 2016 US Championships bronze medalist.

Personal Life[]

Nathan Wei Chen (Chinese: 陈巍; Chén Wēi) was born on May 5, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Chinese parents. His mother, Hetty Wang, worked as a medical translator; his father, Zhidong Chen, worked as a medical research scientist. He has four older siblings: Colin, Alice, Janice, and Tony. Janice was named to the Forbes' 30 Under 30 in 2018 for her work in healthcare.

Chen's hobbies include biking, photography, reading, and playing guitar. He enjoys watching NHL, Formula One, and MotoGP. Chen has previously competed in gymnastics for seven years at the state and regional level, and received ballet training at Ballet West Academy.

Chen graduated from California Connections Academy, and enrolled in Yale University in the fall of 2018, majoring in Statistics and Data Science.
